Torrevieja

Torrevieja is situated on the coast in the Southern Costa Blanca region. It is surrounded by two natural-saltwater lagoons, which form the "Salterns of Torrevieja" considered the biggest in Europe. It is ideally located just 47km from Alicante (the provincial capital) with its international airport and 35km from San Javier international airport in Murcia. Flights from Ireland & the U.K take about two and a half hours.

The area boasts a uniquely dry climate with remarkably low rainfall all year round and over 340 days of sunshine each year . According to the World Health Organisation Torrevieja and it's surrounds are "Almost as perfect an environment as it is possible to obtain". This area is also rated to have the healthiest climate in Europe and second in the World; The salt water lakes absorb water from the atmosphere and create a special microclimate which is widely regarded to be beneficial for sufferers of rheumatism, asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory problems. There are mud baths and various health treatments also available locally.

Torrevieja used to be the home port of the largest fleet of sailing boats in the Mediterranean and still boasts one of Spain's best yacht clubs,, with berths for 1,500 boats.
